410 stainless steel sheet is an all-purpose, 12%-chromium, martensitic stainless steel which can be heat treated for wide-range mechanical properties. 410 stainless steel sheet is the grade of martensitic stainless steel commonly supplied hardened where it is required for higher strength and moderate resistance to both heat and corrosion. The primary differences between 410 and 410S stainless steel are that 410 is the base, all-purpose, hardened, martensitic stainless steel, while 410 stainless steel sheet is the lower-carbon modified version of 410 stainless steel, which is easier to weld, but has lower mechanical properties.
410 stainless steel sheet is a hardenable, direct-chromium alloyed stainless steel, combining superior wear-resistance from higher Carbon alloys with excellent corrosion-resistance from Chromium-based stainless steels.

OXIDATION RESISTANCE
- Good oxidation resistance.
- Can be used in continuous service up to 1300°F (705°C).
- Scaling becomes excessive above 1500°F (811°C) in intermittent service.
CORROSION RESISTANCE
- Corrosion resistance of 410S stainless steel is similar to type 410.
- Resists corrosion in atmospheric conditions, fresh water, mild organic and mineral acids, alkalis and some chemicals.
- Exposure to chlorides in everyday activities (e.g., food preparation, sports activities, etc.) is satisfactory when proper cleaning is performed after exposure to use.
